Out With the Old In With the New: Family Values
This is a modern family in China.
In China families value courage, strength, and bravery. Each member in the family plays a certain gender role to promote these values. The man of the house, typically the father, is responsible for providing for and protecting his family in a traditional Chinese family. The women (mother) stay home while taking care of the children and the rest of the family; housework included. In modern males have jobs. Now that women are valued just as much as the male they also do work outside of their homes with many options to choose from.
The younger generation believes that sexes are equal. That being said the shopping, house-cleaning, cooking, and caring for the children are equally shared responsibilities. Elders are revered for their wisdom, in both traditional and modern families. They are also respected, taken care of and looked up to by the rest of the family. Many generations tend to live together with their children and their kids. When there is a passing of an elder(s), they are honored by ancestor altars within the home. This includes candles, photographs and favorite items of the deceased.
This is a traditional family in China that includes.
This topic appealed to me because I like to know how other cultures live family wise. I decided to do this topic because I wanted to see how family values have changed, considering times has vastly changed. I believe that women and men are equal. I like that now, in modern families, the male and women responsibilities are shared.
